Ragazzo Del Corsa posts dominant win

Ragazzo Del Corsa, dominant winner of Saturday’s Better Beyond Plate at Flemington, will be freshened up before launching his bid for next month's Blue Diamond.

Danny O’Brien said he would send Ragazzo Del Corsa to his Barwon Heads complex for a month before running in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on February 14.

Ragazzo Del Corsa, a $220,000 yearling, always had control of the Better Beyond Plate before drawing clear to win unextended by two lengths.

O’Brien described this son of Stratum as a “a colt we have had good wrap on”.

"Moonee Valley was probably the wrong place to start him, but we had no other option at the time," O’Brien said

"He trialled super down the straight eight days ago and he was dominant today. He’s a gorgeous, big, strong colt who is a precocious two-year-old."

James Winksa said Ragazzo Del Corsa is a “progressive type” who wasn’t suited at the Valley on debut, but had made significant improvement from his debut run.

Winks said it was “no surprise” to him that the colt progressed in the manner he did.

“He’s a very progressive type, there’s a lot to like about him,” Winks said.

Ragazzo Del Corsa, backed from $6 to $4.80, scored by two lengths from Helsingor, $6, with one and a quarter lengths to Make Her Own Whey, $31.

Glen Boss predicted a “big future” from Helsingor after the filly struck all sorts of trouble at the start.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Mr Jagger was a late scratching.
