RAIN ALMOST STALLS VIRAL'S RUN
Although it may have been lost in the aftermath of Russian Camelot’s amazing Derby victory on Saturday in Adelaide, another Danny O’Brien charge has continued its strong form with another Melbourne city win.
Viral notched his second straight win in town for connections when he proved too strong for his rivals after being challenged early in the straight in the 1400m BM78 event.
The win was the son of Al Maher’s third this preparation for his new trainer and appears to have a bright future as he continues his way through the grades.
Although he almost didn’t end up lining up in the race.
“I called his owner Mark Sowerby about an hour before the race and said we have had quite a bit of rain, and I was worried he might not handle the conditions as he failed on it last start,” O’Brien said.
“But to Mark’s credit he said ‘you are already on track with him and it’s early in the day, the track might not be too bad than if it was later in the day’. He was right and we got the win.”
