Rockstardom makes mum proud

Rockstardom today gave triple Melbourne Cup winning mare Makybe Diva her first win as a broodmare, when the Galileo gelding nosed out his rivals at Bendigo.

In an excellent training performance by Danny O'Brien the son of the legendary mare won first-up over 1600m coming off a 28-week break.

"He's a horse that has had a lot of hype given who he is, but I have always told the owners that he was going to take time and to not judge him before he is four or even five-years-old," O'Brien said.

Connections made the decision to geld the $1.5 million yearling purchase after his last preparation and it appears to have paid immediate dividends as the four-year-old gelding put in career best performance to take out today's race at his eighth start.

"We are not getting carried away, but it's nice to get a win with him and he will get the chance over the next 12 months to show what he can do over a trip," O'Brien said.

The 13-time Group 1 winning trainer said he would look to run Rockstardom through his grades in his next few runs before giving him his chance in better races if his form warranted it.

Rockstardom is the oldest of his Makybe Diva’s two named foals. The second is a three-year-old filly by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) named La Dolce Vita who has yet to win from four race starts.
