Rose wins trial as she tunes up for Group 1 assignment

Champion jockey Damien Oliver was pleased he made the trip down the Princes Highway to ride Miss Rose de Lago in her trial return at Geelong on Monday, ahead of the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

The Danny O'Brien-trained six-year-old mare, winner of four Stakes races including the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes when fresh last prep (pictured), is looking to further add to an already impressive resume in terms of a breeding perspective.

Miss Rose de Lago won a three-horse trial, fending off British General (Dan O'Sullivan), with the winner's stablemate De Little Engine further back.

"I was happy enough with her trial; she had a good hit-out," Oliver said.

"The track's a bit chopped up, which wasn't ideal for her.

"But it was a worthwhile exercise, coming here and giving her a good hit-out.

"She's going to be quite forward for her first-up assignment in the Orr Stakes.

"She likes that track/distance, and goes well first-up, won the Lawrence fresh.

"It'll be a tough assignment for her, but definitely worth having a crack."
