ROSEMONT’S TIMELY REMINDER

In a year where three farm graduates have won G1 races, Rosemont produced another reminder at Flemington why their stock should be well sought after at next month’s Magic Millions sale with Thousand Wishes win on Saturday.

Tough mare Thousand Wishes, a homebred Lope de Vega for Rosemont, toughed it out at headquarters to post a brave victory.

“It’s rewarding that our horses, be they sold at various sales or retained to race for us, continue to compete at a very high level,” said Rosemont’s Anthony Mithen.

“We’ve had three G1 winners this year that anyone could have bought from us. Not fear horses either. Santa Ana Lane was the cheapest at just $80k, Hey Doc was $85k and Mr Quickie was sold at the Gold Coast for $115k.”

“It’s exciting to see those horses win big ones this year but I feel like we are ready to fly higher with the horses we have been producing the last couple of years.”

Thousand Wishes trainer Danny O’Brien agrees and was effusive in his praise of Rosemont’s quality stock after Saturday’s Flemington win.

“They are a fantastic asset to the Victorian and Australian breeding industry,” O’Brien said post race.

“I saw their Magic Millions yearlings the other day and the draft they are taking to the Gold Coast are the best group of horses they have ever had,” the Melbourne Cup winner said.

“If you keep buying off them, you get the rewards.”

Rosemont will take an 18-strong draft to the Gold Coast early in the New Year and already they are attracting strong attention.

“We’ve had a few on-farm parades now and there’s been a bit of a common theme. Good judges seem to be in unison that this is the nicest bunch of horses we’ve presented which is a great testimony to the hard work from everyone at the farm. Our yearling manager Karen Sinclair has done an awesome job and we can’t wait to get up there,” Mithen said.

With two I Am Invincible colts, a couple of Exceed and Excels, two Asterns as well as yearlings by Redoute’s Choice, Zoustar, Star Witness, Written Tycoon, Sebring and their own Starcraft, it’s a mouth-watering line-up.

“It’s a lovely spread of stallions. I can’t split the two Vinnies on type but the Amanpour colt being just the second foal of a G1 winner will certainly garner some attention,” Mithen said.

Meanwhile, Thousand Wishes will stay at home over the festive season doing her best to line up some black type to earn her spot in Rosemont’s burgeoning broodmare army.

“She’s a lovely mare for us to have. She sneaked into fourth place in the Edward Manifold in her 3yo year, but I think the penny is starting to drop for her now she’s more mature. I really think she will be up to some black type races in the early autumn,” Mithen concluded.
