Shampion continues Uluru Stud's hot run
New Zealand bred filly Shampion continued Uluru Stud's hot recent form claiming her maiden victory at Geelong on Tuesday.
Sent out the raging favourite at $1.40 in the 2200m event, the three-quarter sister to Uluru Stud's Group 1 winner Shamrocker, was made to work for her victory.
The filly was pocketed in an awkward spot rounding the home turn, however jockey Steven King was able to get her clear and his encouragement saw her land her first win.
"She didn't begin the best and we ended up not in a ideal spot, but she was travelling well and we just needed to get clear which she did in the straight," King said.
"Although her win didn't look that impressive, the penny hasn't dropped with her as she is still very mentally immature, but hopefully the way she knuckled down to win inside the final 100m will give her confidence to go on from here."
