SHINN'S COLD CONFIDENCE
Star jockey Blake Shinn will be out to give trainer Danny O'Brien his second win in the VRC Oaks when the pair team up with Served Cold at Flemington on Thursday.
Served Cold has a couple of similarities with O'Brien's past Oaks winners, as she sports the same colours as his 2019 VRC Oaks winner Miami Bound and is a full sister to his 2022 ATC Oaks heroine El Patroness.
The daughter of Shamus Award was beaten as a short-priced favourite in the Oaks Preview at Flemington two starts ago, but bounced back to form when she defeated the colts and geldings in her most recent start in the Geelong Classic.
"She won really well last time in the Geelong Classic," Shinn said.
"She's been targeted towards the Oaks, everything she's done we've been very happy with. The only glitch in her form is at Flemington, where you couldn't lead and win because there was a bad headwind there.
"We're confident that she'll run the 2500m and that's the biggest test heading to Thursday for a lot of them but everything she's done suggests she'll run the 2500m. Danny's great with these fillies, she's related to El Patroness, who's won an Oaks before.
"I'm confident, we're drawn a little bit awkward, but she'll roll forward, put herself in a spot and run well."
Served Cold is at $12 in Sportsbet's market for the VRC Oaks on Thursday.
