SKIDDAW POWER AT BALLARAT

An aggressive ride from jockey Damian Lane saw Skiddaw produce a dominant performance to claim an easy victory on Ballarat Cup Day.

Lane, who rode a treble at the meeting, fired the son of Hinchinbrook out of the machine and offset his wide draw by settling outside the leader in the 1600m BM78 event.

"He flew the barriers which made the job of pushing forward much easier and we were able to settle outside the leader without having to spend much petrol," Lane said.

"He travelled into the straight so strongly I just had to wait before going for home and he proved far too strong for them. It was great to see him back in the winner's circle."

The last time the gelding saluted was as a three-year-old back in March at Bendigo over 2200m with Lane also aboard.

The 2.25 length win was the four-year-old's fourth in a career spanning 17 starts with his prizemoney closing in on $300,000.
