SPRINTER'S STAR CONTINUES TO RISE

It’sourtime ran one of the quickest August 1200 metres on record at Flemington on Saturday when he flashed from last to score the first stakes win for the new season in the G3 Aurie’s Star Handicap.

He might not have faced a genuine spring field in the sprint, but his time of 1.08.68s certainly was that of a class sprinter on a track that had earlier been ungraded to a Good3.

The honest sprinter was handled skillfully by Michae Dee, who is coming off his best season where only James McDonald won more G1 races than the six collected by Dee.

Finishing the widest, It'sourtime ($3.90 fav) had too much in hand for $31 outside Umgawa with $21 chance Chassis close=up in third place.

O’Brien said It’sourtime was one of the more honest sprinters he has dealt with.

“He’s been in work a long time, but he seems to be improving, which is difficult,” O’Brien explained.

“He’s tremendously honest. He rarely misses top three, so we’ll give him the opportunity (in the spring).”

“He was in a bit of a difficult spot being last at the 250 (metres) and then had to go wide on the track, which is not the A-one spot to be, but he really let down with a solid turn of foot.”

Last year, O’Brien took the former Perth horse Showmanship to Sydney to win the G3 Show County Stakes (1200m) and the trainer said he was likely to do the same with It’sourtime.
