Stable favourite claims St Pat's Cup for O'Brien

Stable favourite The New Boy put his name back on the winner's list on Saturday with a gutsy win in the St Pat's Cup at Geelong.

Trainer Danny O'Brien was ecstatic with his old campaigner's win, saying it gave his whole stable a huge thrill.

"The New Boy is just one of those horses you can't help but love. He is a dream to handle and ride and every time he goes out he runs up to his rating giving his all and we were just so thrilled to see him win another race today at Geelong," trainer Danny O'Brien said.

"He won at two and is still going and winning races as as 8yo, he is an absolute beauty that has given so much joy to his wonderful ownership group."

Saturday's win was the gelding's eighth career win to go along with his 19 placings from 65 starts for $538,655 in stakes.

"Of his 65 starts he has "weighed in" (finished in the first 5) on 43 occasions! Which is quite incredibly consistent," O'Brien said.
