SUCCESSFUL HIT AND RUN MISSION
A decision to scratch from Caulfield in preference of heading to Adelaide a week later paid dividends for trainer Danny O'Brien, when Basarwa claimed victory at Morphettville on Saturday.
The son of Atlante made it consecutive wins as he powered away from his rivals in the resticted 1600m event for jockey Todd Pannell.
O'Brien felt the Adelaide option was smarter race to head towards as he looked to build a winning profile with the former New Zealander.
"The Melbourne race came up pretty strong and even though we felt he would have been competitive that race, waiting a week to come over her just seemed like the smarter decision and luckily it was proven to be," O'Brien said.
"The horse has come back in super order this preparation and the way he put this field away, we would expect he would be very competitive at metro level in Victoria."
