THE SPANIARD REIGNS SUPREME
Recent stable acquisition, The Spaniard has taken no time to endear himself to his new connections with a tough maiden win in his second time out for his new trainer at Kyneton today.
The Fastnet Rock gelding was purchased privately and sent to Danny O'Brien over the summer, in what looks a shrewd move as the three-year-old won his first race strongly at start five. There looks to be more wins in store for the gelding.
Given a great ride by John Allen, The Spaniard settled midfield off a hot tempo before cruising into the race and battling out the finish with Lunares as the pair cleared out to finish six-lengths clear of their nearest rivals.
"He cruised into the race like he was going to sweep straight past the second horse, but he had a bit of think about it when he loomed up," Allen said post race.
"I had to focus him and to his credit he dug in and put the race away. He should hopefully learn from today and go on with it from here."
