Ultimate gear change pays dividends
The ultimate gear adjustment saw Widden Stud's Caspian break his maiden status with a tough win at Kyneton on Thursday.
The Stratum-progeny (pictured - jockey in Orange, Purple Cap) was first-up after being gelded and the change appeared the catalyst behind his excellent performance at his fourth start in the 1200 maiden event where he nosed out Team Hawkes well-bred, short-priced favourite Ameristralia.
Jockey James Winks was very complimentary of the win.
"He travelled beautifully throughout, but the pleasing thing was that the horse wanted to fight to get past the favourite and he was very genuine in that final 100m to record the win," Winks said.
