Verstappen motors home at Cranbourne

Classy colt Verstappen bounced back onto the winner's list, to make it two wins from three starts, with a dominant display at Cranbourne on Sunday.

After winning on debut at Pakenham by five lengths, the Stratum colt ran fifth at Moonee Valley in the Nissan Stakes before trainer Danny O'Brien decided to give the horse a freshen up at his 13th Beach Training Facility.

"He had been up a fair while in the winter as we waited for the right surface to run him on, so being able to send him down to the beach to freshen up has worked well," O'Brien said.

"He was far too good for them today and he is a colt with plenty of ability. We are looking forward to what he can do in the future."

O'Brien said he was thinking of testing the three-year-old at stakes level again at his next start over the Flemington carnival.

Jockey Craig Williams is confident the colt can measure up in a higher grade.

"He was super impressive today. He was being very colty and thinking about other stuff pre-race, but he put it together once the gates opened. I really like him," Williams said.
