VOBIS POSTER BOY CONFIRMS STAR STATUS
Iconoclasm confirmed his place as the poster boy for Victoria's VOBIS scheme with a third straight win in the lucrative VOBIS Gold Star (1500m) at The Valley on Friday night.
Danny O'Brien's son of Toorak Toff smashed through the $1 million prizemoney mark with victory over Galaxy Raider and So Si Bon in the $150,000 contest, which is part of the series open only to Victorian-bred horses.
It was the 11th win of Iconoclasm's career and assistant trainer Ben Gleeson said the six-year-old stallion was much-loved around O'Brien's Flemington stable.
"He's just a pillar of consistency, (to win the race) three years in a row is some sort of effort," Gleeson said.
"It's a pleasure to train him.
"He came to us a bit of a hothead but he's really settled in his work and he's just loving life."
Damian Lane partnered Iconoclasm to victory on Friday night after Damien Oliver did the steering in 2019 and John Allen rode him in 2018, the latter when the horse was trained by Darren Weir.
While Iconoclasm produced his best on the Good 3 track, O'Brien was forced to withdraw another stable favourite Order of Command from the night's feature race, the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), after the forecast rain didn't arrive as early as predicted.
