Well-bred filly has Oaks Day in her sights

Well-bred filly Mambo Lady will be stepping out on Oaks Day for trainer Danny O'Brien after an excellent maiden victory over 1600m at Seymour yesterday.

However the daughter of Duke of Marmalade will be heading to a 1700m restricted 0-70 three-year-old event and not the Group 1 Crown Oaks on the feature race day.

The Arch of Gold Syndicate have had a lot of fun with the progeny of their former star mare Circles of Gold and she's the grand-dam of this filly, who won with a leg in the air at Seymour on Sunday.

Mambo Lady was placed at her first two runs, but relished the step up to 1600m to cast off maiden status in impressive fashion.

The filly made full use of gate one for Steve Baster to lead all the way and smash her rivals to score by more than four lengths in an eye catching win.

A half-sister to stakes-placed King Raedwald, Decircles and Hybrid, Mambo Lady is the fifth winner from five foals to race for Lady Circles, a half-sister by Ascot Knight (Can) to champions Elvstroem and Haradasun.

Retained to race by her breeders, Mambo Lady looks a bright prospect for young Coolmore shuttler Duke of Marmalade, whose oldest Australian progeny are three year-olds.
