WIN FULL OF GRUNT
Three-year-old filly Savee broke her maiden with a determined performance at Seymour on Wednesday, holding off the fast-finishing odds-on favourite Inez.
After using her gate speed from the outside barrier, jockey Bill Egan settled the daughter of Grunt outside the leader and was able to withstand a late challenge late from the favourite after taking over the lead down the stretch.
“At the top of the straight the leader fell in a hole, so I decided to get on my bike and see if they could chase us down,” Egan said post race.
“She gave a really strong kick and when the favourite came at us she kicked again to hold her off. I was impressed with the performance.”
The 1100m three-year-old fillies maiden was Savee’s fifth start and was following two strong placings to start her second racing campaign.
