Witness to take on Golden Jubilee

Star Witness will back up for another showing at Royal Ascot after pulling up well following his second place on the opening day of the prestigious event.

The Danny O'Brien-trained three-year-old had been 6-1 favourite going into Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes but, after a rough start, missed out by half a length to English sprinter Prohibit.

"It wasn't our plan to be so far back in the race and given the messy start we had to revert to Plan B with our tactics, but he ran super," O'Brien said.

Going into the race the trainer had hoped the crack colt would settle closer to the speed for jockey Steven Arnold, but the gun sprinter was slowly away before he responding well to close strongly for second.

O'Brien said he planned for Star Witness to run in Saturday's group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes over 1200 metres. Star Witness will be the sole Australian runner in the field following today's news that the Peter Moody-trained Hinchinbrook has broken down and will miss the race.
