Backfill etches his name as a winner for Sebring

Backfill added his name to the list of winners of his ill-fated sire Sebring with a dominant win at Colac on Sunday.

Just a week after Sebring's early demise, the three-year-old gelding broke through for his first win at start six for trainer Danny O'Brien.

Sent out $2.60 favourite in the 1200m three-year-old maiden, Backfill settled in the one-out, one-back position for jockey Dean Yendall before storming down the middle of the track to secure the win.

"I felt like he always had the race in hand, and once I asked him to put in he rounded the leader and won fairly softly in the end," Yendall said.

"He ran right through the line so I would be confident that he will get out over further with time as well," the victorious jockey said.
