Promising colt Banquo gave his army of punting supporters something to cheer about when successful in the 1400m maiden at Sale on Sunday.

Opening at $3.50, the son of Written Tycoon ended up an odds-on favorite, shortening to $1.40 on the TAB, and he gave his backers no anxious moments as he cruised to comfortable 1.25 length win under champion hoop Damien Oliver.

The win was Oliver's 100th for trainer Danny O'Brien, which have come at a strike rate of 18.34%.

Oliver predicted a birght future for the full-brother of Group 1 winner Booker, who also banked a nice Super Vobis cheque for his New Zealand owners.

"He i a nice colt and we have always had a bit of an opinion of him and he won with a bit in hand today and he quickened up nicely," Oliver said.

"He can absolutely make his way through the grades and into better races, as he is still improving physically but there is nicer races in him and I am sure he will improve again in the Autumn."

O'Brien plans to test the three-year-old in a 1400m listed event at Flemington on Stakes Day for his next start.
