Barnstorming Bondeiger has O'Brien excited

An amazing last to first win by three-year-old colt Bondeiger at Geelong has Flemington trainer Danny O'Brien dreaming off bigger things.

Ridden by James Winks, the short-priced favourite underlined the punters confidence with a barnstorming finish to take out the 1435m maiden event after at one stage in running looking in a hopeless position.

"They don't win like that often," O'Brien said.

"James was very patient after he missed the start and I was super impressed with the way the horse picked his way through the field and closed in that final furlong.

"You would think there are better races in store for him on the back of that performance."

By ill-fated Widden Stud shuttle sire War Pass, a Champion US two-year-old, Bondeiger is raced by Melbourne Cup winning owner Laurence Eales.

O'Brien is looking at taking Bondeiger to town for his next start most likely in a 1600m three-year-old event at Caulfield on Wednesday, October 15.
