BOLD BENNY LANDS THE CASH

A daring front-running ride by Ben Melham from the outside gate saw Serengeti win at Geelong on Friday.

The star hoop was aggressive from the barriers and after 100m, had the four-year-old  out in front a position he never relinquished through the race.

Trainer Danny O'Brien heaped praise on the jockey.

"We asked Ben to be in the front-half of the field, and he made a good proactive decision which offset the poor draw inside the first furlong," the Fred Hoysted winning trainer said.

"He then rated him perfectly and it was great to see the horse get the job done."

The 1726m  BM64 victory was the gelding's second in five start since joining the O'Brien team.

"He is a horse with some potential and everything fell into place today with the blinkers going on, a good ride and an excellent performance," O'Brien said.

"I would love to see him over 2000m so we will lilely head that way with him at his next start."
