Bullpit & Bossy bring up double for Pitts

Owner/Breeder Steve Pitts had a red-letter day at Sandown on Saturday with a winning double and third placegetter from his three runners with trainer Danny O'Brien.

Glen Boss & Zahspeed proved too strong over 1800m in Race 5 and then Bullpit bounced back to his best thanks to a Bossy 'special' from the inside gate over 1000m two races later.

It looked like Pitts may land a treble when Bullpit's full sister She's Got Speed loomed for Boss at the 200m in Race 8, however she couldn't reel in the leader and finished a gutsy third.

All three horses are by little known, unfashionable sire Speed N Power a sire the owner has supported for many years.

"It was a tremendous day for Steve. He is such a loyal supporter of the stable and he can breed a good horse as all three are from his NugNug Farm up Mansfield way," trainer Danny O'Brien said.

"I didn't know much about the sire before Steve sent me Bullpit, but he has thrown some nice horses from limited opportunities."

Speed N Power, a close relation of legendary racehorse Might And Power, was a $1 million yearling through the sale ring who never made it made it to the track, but is now seeing some success through his progeny.

"It's an amazing story and for him to get a double at Victorian metro meeting is pretty significant giving his small crop sizes," O'Brien added.
