CONSISTENT CHIEF EARNS SPOILS

Our Chief rounded out his three-year-old season with a much-deserved victory at Caulfield on Saturday. 

The son of Tagaloa had run three consecutive Saturday grade placings, the last two as runner-up, before he proved too strong in his first try at 2400m. 

Masterfully ridden by Jamie Mott, Our Chief pushed forward and settled second trailing the leader in the staying event. 

As the pace slackened coming down the side, many moves were made which flushed Mott out early, but Our Chief rallied and held off all challengers. 

“He really did deserve this victory as he has been ultra consistent and he was very strong at the 2400m so that opens up so many options for him over the next few seasons,” trainer Danny O’Brien said after the victory. 

The $70,000 Inglis Premier purchase’s third win from 13 starts took his prizemoney earnings past $400,000.
