DROP BACK IN CLASS HELPS FRIENDS

A positive ride and returning to a country meeting led to Still Be Friends bouncing back onto the winners list at Werribee on Wednesday.

After two reasonable runs in metropolitan grade, the son of Brazen Beau dropped back to a provincial meeting and bought the second win of his short career.

Jockey Damien Thornton, who had won at his only other ride on the gelding, made it two for two after taking Still Be Friends to the front and making every post a winner in the 1415m Class 1 Handicap.

“He led quite comfortably and we are travelled very well throughout, then he gave a nice kick on straightening and was too strong," Thornton said post race.

"Hopefully he can go back to metro grade and knock one over as he has the ability to do that.”
