Eraset to defend Sale Cup crown

Eraset, last year's winner of the $150,000 Sale Cup, appears certain to return to defend his title this Sunday.

Fresh off a slashing second at Caulfield over 1600m on Thousand Guineas day, Eraset has been a model of consistency this preparation as he built up to his pet distance of 1600m.

The Reset gelding is winner of three races over the Sale Cup distance and trainer Danny O'Brien is confident the horse is racing well enough to be a contender once again.

“I feel Eraset is racing every bit as good as last year and the owners obviously have fond memories of this race, so we will be hoping to make it back-to-back Sale Cups with the horse,” O'Brien said.

“His effort under the big weight at Caulfield last start was encouraging and he will enter this race in excellent condition having had three runs back from a spell”

With last year's winning jockey Glen Boss out of the spring carnival due to injury, O'Brien said Dwayne Dunn, who rode Eraset last start, was likely to stick with the horse in the Sale Cup.
