Gear change unleashes Shampion finish

The addition of blinkers helped well-bred staying mare Shampion bounce back onto the winners list at Geelong on Monday.

The Uluru Stud-owned, Danny O'Brien-trained four-year-old, a close relation of the combination's dual Group 1 winning filly Shamrocker, was too strong for her rivals over 2300m and notched her second win from 12 starts.

"She was just lacking that killer punch at her past couple of starts and the blinkers today gave her the extra edge and the confidence to put the race away," O'Brien said.

"Being from Shamrocker's family she has a valuable future in the breeding barn so we will see how far she can progress in the future."

Daniel Moor settled the daughter of O'Reilly just beyond midfield before taking inside runs around the corner and presenting her down the middle of the track for her final effort.

"She will stay all day and the thing I love about this filly is that she gives her all which is what got her over the line today," Moor said.
