LANE: "MY WORST WINNING RIDE FOR A LONG TIME"

Stay Gold had to overcome what jockey Damian Lane described as "my worst winning ride for long time" to salute at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The daughter of Toorak Toff had an arduous run in transit being posted wide without cover for the entire 1500m event before holidng off all challenges to score by a narrow margain.

"I am just glad I got the right bob in as I am sure Danny would have been throwing the remote at the TV if we didn't win," Lane said post race.

"It's probably my worst winning ride in a long time."

The win bought up a double for the trainer-jockey combination as earlier they teamed with Exeter for victory.
