LOOK AT ME BRO

Litzdeel was able to do something her famous Melbourne Cup winning half-brother Vow And Declare couldn't do by winning at her second race start.

Vow And Declare took four starts to win his first race, which happened almost to the day back in 2018 when he was victorious over 2400m at Warrnambool.

Yesterday it was his little sister who won her first race with an excellent performance over 1600m in an open age maiden. The daughter of Dundeel put the writing on the wall with an encouraging debut at Geelong, where she ran into fifth from back in the field.

Trainer Danny O'Brien was thrilled with improvement from start one to two from the filly.

"She was excellent in this race. She was able to take up a forward position, then she travelled nicely and the best part of her race was the last 100m when she powered through the line," O'Brien said.

"If the race was weight for age she would have been getting a bigger weight relief against her older rivals so the win was full of merit."

O'Brien said the emerging stayer was in-form at the right time and has earmarked testing her at Group 2 level in the Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day for her next start.

"She is in form, has a pedigree that points to staying and at this time of year a three-year-old over these distances can progress from a maiden to stakes grade quickly, so we will give her the opportunity and she how she measures up," O'Brien said.
