Mott solid as a rock at Seymour

Promising lightly-raced galloper Rock Vantage underlined Jamie Mott stunning return from suspension at Seymour yesterday by registering the jockey's fourth win of day.

The highweight hoop rode half the winners on the card, all for Flemington-based trainers, at his first meeting back in the saddle since Caulfield’s Easter Monday card.

"It’s fantastic," Mott said after his final win, aboard Rock Vantage. "It’s my first day back from suspension, so it couldn’t have gone any better."

Rock Vantage brought up Mott’s fourth quartet of his career when he won the $30,000 Centrebet Fire Up 0-68 Showcase Handicap (1400m).

The son of Rock of Gibraltar made it two wins from four starts when he held off the fast-finishing Notice Received to score a win that made an impression on Mott.

"I’d say he’ll progress to city grade no problem at all," Mott said of Rock Vantage, who completed a winning double for Danny O’Brien.

The Caulfield Cup-winning trainer also provided Mott’s first winner for the day, when he produced Settler's Way to win the second race on the card.

Mott followed up with victory aboard Walloon Region for Mike Moroney in the third event.

His other success came aboard the John Sadler-trained Mr Sommerville. The three-year-old son of Danzero justified a strong betting move to score a resounding 2-3/4-length win as $2.40 favourite in Race 6.

The feature event on the Seymour card also went the way of a Flemington trainer with Saab Hasan producing Compound to win the $30,000 Puckapunyal Army Cup (2000m).

The victory continued a marvellous run for Hasan, who won Saturday's $120,000 Listed Galilee Series Final with Shoreham and counts four winners and just as many minor placegetters among his past 10 starters.
