ORDEROFTHEGARTER NEW CAULFIELD CUP FAv

The Caulfield Cup has a new favourite after Orderofthegarter secured a berth in next month's $5 million feature.

Sportsbet reacted to Orderofthegarter's win in the $160,000 Group 3 Catanach's Jewellers MRC Foundation Cup (2000m) by promoting the European import to $8.50 favourite ahead of Master Of Wine at $13.

Damien Oliver afforded the Danny O'Brien-trained Orderofthegarter every chance from barrier four in the capacity 16-horse field as the Lloyd Williams-owned Northern Hemisphere six-year-old settled fourth in the box seat before driving past early leader In Good Health ($23) with 250 metres remaining to record his first win in Australia by three-quarters of a length.

Chapada ($23) and last year's Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m) winner Steel Prince ($10) filled the minor placings as In Good Health stayed on gamely for fourth, while the disappointment of the race was Dr Drill ($6), who failed to beat another horse home.

Oliver said: "I knew I was going well - he can just travel a little bit keen. We wanted to use the barrier today and the first 400 there were probably a few of us vying, it just made him a little bit keen.

"I didn't want to be handing up too much, so I had to maintain a prominent position. You've got to remember that it was only his third run in three years, so he's still got improvement to come.

"He's snuck into a great race with a really good weight."

Daniel Moor has suddenly appeared as a possible Caulfield Cup winner after being linked to the Cup ride of the new favourite.

Moor, who earlier won a race for trainer Danny O'Brien on the sprint mare From Within, has been working Orderofthegarter for O'Brien and has already vowed he could get down to the lightweight 50 kilograms the horse must only carry in the feature in four weeks, a weight Olivercannot make.

"I'll speak to Lloyd and Nick (Williams), we'll see," O'Brien said. "I know Daniel Moor has been riding him in all of his gallops and he declared him in this race about 10 days ago after he worked with King Of Leogrance on the course proper.

"He'd certainly put his hand up to get down to 50 kilos."

As for the victory, which has secured the son of Galileo a wonderful shot at the world's richest 2400-metre handicap next month, O'Brien said: "He got a nice run from the good draw. He's just been building, this guy.

"He's coming off a two-year layoff. Each run he's just found a little bit and I think there's still more to come towards the Caulfield Cup next time.

"He came to us very well. He'd obviously had a decent break, but he came to us sound and fit and we've built him up from scratch. He's a lovely horse, a good-looking son of Galileo - very genuine. He tries really hard every time you send him out there.

"We're very lucky to be getting these horses (from the Williams family). World-class horses, beautifully bred and it's all clicking at the moment."

The winner of the Catanach's Jewellers MRC Foundation Cup, previously known as the Naturalism Stakes, is afforded ballot-free exemption into the Stella Artois Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 17.

Orderofthegarter's victory made it a timely treble for the O'Brien stable in Victoria, while they also scored a metro winner in Adelaide to make it four for the day.
