O'Reilly mare stays in form

A class ride from Daniel Moor showcased Shampion's excellent staying ability as the O'Reilly mare continued her hot run of form at Pakenham on Wednesday.

Jumping from the outside gate, Moor had the four-year-old just better than midfield with cover after a furlong. He then saved all the ground on the fence around the corner before angling her clear where she surged to the win in the BM64 2500m event.

The win was the well-bred filly's third from 14 starts which also includes five placings.

"These staying fillies can take a while both mentally and physically to be seasoned enough for these staying events, but we are seeing this preparation that the patience we have shown with her is coming to fruition," trainer Danny O'Brien said.

"At all seven starts at 2000m and beyond in her career she has either won or finished with 1.25 lengths, which shows her staying ability.

"It was an excellent ride from Daniel tonight and he has really clicked with her as he has won and place twice in his past four rides on her.

"She took another step forward tonight and we will keep raising our sights with her and she how far she can progress," O'Brien added.
