PORTER'S ALL GAS NO BRAKES

Porter's sustained speed from start to finish proved too much for his rivals as he took out the final race on the card at Flemington on Saturday.

Perfectly rated by apprentice jockey Logan Bates, Porter bounced cleanly from the gates and burned straight to the front and continued to cut out quick sectionals as he dared his rivals to run him down in the the 1400m Benchmark 74 event.

The son of So You Think broke up the field with the tactics and burst for home four lengths clear at the top of the straight.

"The Flemington straight is long , but he was able to continue his gallop all the way to the line and get the result this time out," Bates said post race referring to the pair's last start heartache when collared in the final stride at Cranbourne.

"He was excellent today. Once we got to the front he rated himself perfectly with a little breather before putting the foot down at the 800m. Maybe he was a little bit angry from getting beaten last start as he was determined to get the job done today,"

The five-year-old who is owned by Australian Bloodstock has now won six races and has 10 placings from his 26 career starts and is closing in on $300,000 in career prizemoney.

Porter's win bought up trainer Danny O'Brien's fifth Saturday city winner since Christmas, which has included two city doubles in the past fortnight.
