SPAIN SPECIAL FOR RUNAWAY WIN

Zac Spain was on fire on Sunday at Benalla with four winners, but his best was his rail hugging ride on Runaway Soul.

Spain, who rode a double for trainer Danny O'Brien after scoring with Baby Hazel earlier in the day, allowed Runaway Soul to settle midfield. Rather than try and hook wide swinging for him,  the in-form hoop stayed in around the corner and the four-year-old burst up the rail to secure victory.

The son of Pariah had one win from 13 starts before Sunday, however he had nine placings which showed his excellent consistency.

"He gave me a great ride. He travelled nicely and came up underneath me rounding the turn, and I could see they were laying off the fence so we comitted to the gap and he was terrific late," Spain said post-race.

"He deserved the win and the way he won, I definitely think he can go on with it."
