SUN GIFT SHINES BRIGHT
Waikato Stud staying mare Sun Gift bounced back from a case of cardiac arrhythmia to post her maiden win at Seymour on Friday.
The Savabeel mare has always shown ability three seconds in her last preparation and she found the right set up over 2000m third-up.
"Her last start was too bad to be true and thankfully they found an issue and great work by our staff to nurse her through it and present her today in such terrific order," trainer Danny O'Brien said post race.
"It was also a terrific ride from an awkward gate by Fred (Kersley) as he followed the right horses and she looked to always have the race in hand."
Kersley was full of praise for the four-year-old mare.
"We were a step slow at the start but that worked in our favour as we were able to snag across the back of the field and then kick-up inside a few to get a good spot in running," Kersley said.
"She is still green as she didn't know how to put the race away, but she got the job done with was important. There are more wins in store for her."
